As per tradition, I head out of town every New Years Eve, to explore a new city. This year we landed on the city of Atlanta. There was a lot going on with Bassnectar, Widespread Panic and more; but I knew the only way to ring in 2018 was with a funky get down courtesy of TAUK. The vibes were still fresh in my memory from this summer’s Disc Jam, and I was beyond ready to experience that again.
After a few days taking in the beautiful city of Atlanta, it was time to close out the momentous 2017. Down on the main strip of Little Five Points sits the exquisite Variety Playhouse. The venue is a charming evolved 1940’s theater- complete with theater style seating and balcony. TAUK was joined by New Orleans jazz-funk-sextet Naughty Professor who set mood as the playhouse filled with merry souls ready to bring in the new year. TAUK ran a lively set drenching the crowd in serious grooves. They knocked out two amazing sets and were joined by Naughty Horns. Throughout the venue people were bouncing, all the excellent energies experienced this year seemed to come together. As midnight hit, the crowd was showered with balloons which created a cinematic scene that I will flashback to throughout 2018. I couldn’t imagine ringing the year in anywhere else- the venue, the crowd and the energy on the stage was perfect. TAUK is such a cohesive and lively act that rocks like no other.
TAUK is heading into 2018 with a bang. On Saturday, January 13th, they are supporting the Disco Biscuts in DC at the Anthem. The next week, TAUK‘s Matt Jalbert and Isaac Teel are joining the Disco Biscuts‘s Marc Brownstein and Aron Magner for one night to form the TAUKing Biscuts. The collaboration is the official after party for night one of Umphrey’s McGee‘s 20th anniversary run in NYC. TAUKing Biscuts take over BB Kings on Friday, January 19th. Be sure to follow and support this amazing group.
